From the rugged edges of the Rockies to the alpine playground of British Columbia’s interior, Canada’s off-road championship calendar is about to level up.
Athletics Canada announced today the host locations for the 2027 and 2028 editions of the Canadian Mountain Running Championships and Canadian Trail Running Championships.
2027 and 2028 Canadian Trail Running Championships (50 miles & 50km)
Coleman, Alberta — Sinister 7 Ultra
If you know, you know. Sinister 7 has built a reputation as one of Canada’s most iconic trail events—gritty, scenic, and just the right amount of unforgiving. Nestled in the Crowsnest Pass, Coleman delivers a course that feels equal parts history lesson and endurance test, with steep climbs and that unmistakable Alberta edge.
In 2027 and 2028, the nation’s best trail runners will descend on this legendary course with national titles and bragging rights on the line. Note: 2028 will serve as the Selection Trials for the 2029 World Mountain & Trail Running Championships.
“We are really excited about the opportunity to interact with more athletes from around Canada. While we always have a number of runners from across the country, it will be great to interact with people from different backgrounds, and share our trail experience together,” said Sinister Sports owner and director Brian Gallant. “Crowsnest Pass is a really special place. It’s quiet, but with a big heart. Athletes can expect a lot of small-town charm, and helpful people. The vibe around Sinister 7 Ultra is that of a big family reunion, and everyone is welcome. It’s really about the community of people; the energy and spirit they bring. The course is tough – really tough. You will be in the Rockies, and the trails are a bit of everything. It is unapologetically rugged, and that’s what keeps people coming back.”
Dates for 2027 are: July 10-11, 2027,
2027 & 2028 Canadian Mountain Running Championships
Revelstoke, British Columbia — Revelstoke Mountain Resort & 5 Peaks Adventures
Let’s call it what it is: this is elevated mountain running. Revelstoke brings towering vertical, technical terrain, and postcard-worthy scenery that will undoubtedly make your legs scream. With the combined expertise of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and 5 Peaks Adventures, athletes can expect a world-class championship experience that climbs, descends, and then climbs some more.
This is where Canada’s mountain running specialists will be crowned – on terrain that demands respect and rewards the bold.
“It’s exciting to put Revelstoke on the map for mountain running, adding another feather in our cap for summer adventure opportunities. Hosting the Championships over two years allows us to build on the momentum created by 5 Peaks, which already draws competitive runners to tackle distances ranging from shorter climbs to demanding ultra-distance courses with significant elevation gain,” said Tourism Revelstoke Executive Director Meghan Tabor. “We’re also excited about strengthening our collaboration with them, whose national reach and experience organizing trail events across Canada make them a natural partner in delivering a high-calibre championship. Together, we can build an event that highlights both elite competition and community engagement, while showcasing Revelstoke’s terrain to a broader national audience.”
Dates for 2027 are: August 27-29, 2027
A Championship Calendar Built for Adventure
With both championships awarded for two consecutive years, Athletics Canada is doubling down on consistency, quality, and athlete experience. These hosts bring proven events, passionate communities, and courses that challenge even the most seasoned competitors.
Whether it’s the raw, historic trails of Coleman or the vertical playground of Revelstoke, one thing is certain: the road to national titles in 2027 and 2028 will be anything but flat.
