This year's Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships lived up to the hype. In the men's race, it was the closest ever finish, with three runners within 70 seconds of each other after over four hours of gruelling racing.
Aaron Robson was crowned Canadian Champion, despite only moving into the lead in the last mile. He took advantage of his track credentials to pull away from Dave Stevens, who led for most of the race. Dave held off Marcus Ribi who was always in contention throughout the challenging 50km race.
In the women's race, Emilie Mann lead from early on and never relinquished her lead. She ran one of the fastest times in recent years. Emilie was followed by Jeanelle Hazlett who ran consistently to finish a strong second. Patricia Roney held on for a third place finish to secure her place on the Canadian national team.
The top three in the men's and women's race have automatically qualified for the Canadian mountain running team which will compete at the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Argentina on November 16th, 2019.
The 50km course featured close to 2000m of elevation gain over varied terrain. Course conditions were dry and fast, with sunny conditions that became quite warm in the late morning. This was the fifth year in a row the race was held at the Dirty Feet Kal Park 50.
