FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships Events

A) Where and When are the 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships?

The 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships will be hosted in Golden, BC on June 27th, 2020. Registration for the event will soon be available at National Championships website.

B) Do I need to Qualify to Compete at the 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships?

Yes. You can qualify for the 2020 Canadian Mountain Running Championships by meeting one of the following three qualification standards:

  1. Qualifying Series Qualifier: you finished in the top five (5) in your age group in any two Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series Races in 2019. Note: If you ran a regional race in Quebec or the Atlantic provinces, you only need to have finished in the top five (5) in one 2019 Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Race

  2. Competitive Athlete Exemption: you request and are granted an exemption from qualifying on the basis that you are a competitive athlete on the national level in any of road running, mountain running, trail running, track and field (distance events) or cross-country, including that you have run a competitive time in any distance in 2019 or 2020 that is a similar competitive achievement to running under 36 minutes (men) or 40 minutes (women) for 10km.   3. National Team Exemption: you have previously competed for Canada in Mountain Running or Cross-Country Running at the international level in the last 5 years (NACAC, Worlds or Commonwealth Championships)

C) How Do I Qualify to Compete at the 2021 Canadian Mountain Running Championships?

Athletes wishing to participate in the 2021 Canadian Mountain Running Championships will have to qualify by meeting any one (or more) of the following criteria:

  1. Qualifying Series Qualifier: you finish in the top five (5) in your age group in any two Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series Races in 2020.

  2. D) Where and When are the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships?

The 2020 Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships will be hosted by the Quebec Mega Trail (QMT 50) race on July 4, 2020 at Mont Saint-Anne, QC. Find out more about the event here: QMT 50

Two qualifying spots will be available for the first and second male and female finishers at the Canadian Long Distance Championships who will automatically qualify for the World Long Distance Mountain Running Team that will compete in the 17th World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Spain on November 14-15, 2020.

This year there will also be a Western Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships. The 2020 Western Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships will be hosted by the North Face Dirty Feet Kal Park 50 on May 3, 2020 in Vernon, BC. Find out more about the event here: Kal Park 50

One qualifying spot will be available for the first male and female finishers at the Western Canadian Long Distance Championships who will automatically qualify for the World Long Distance Mountain Running Team that will compete in the 17th World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Spain on November 14-15, 2020.

E) Do I need to Qualify to Compete at the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships?

No. Any athlete is eligible to compete at the 2020 Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships and 2020 Western Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships.

G) Do I need to be a member of the Canadian Mountain Running Association to be Eligible for the National Team?

Yes. Only members of the Canadian Mountain Running Association will be considered for positions on the national team.
