Wednesday, January 31 2007 - Selection criteria for the WMRT in Ovronaz, Switzerland, September 15-16, 2007

Senior
men: 6 selected (5 by points system and 1 at-large)
women: 4 selected (3 by points system and 1 at-large)

Junior (16-19 as of December 31st, 2007)
men: 4 selected (3 by points system and 1 at-large)
women: 3 selected (2 by points system and 1 at-large)

The points system will be based on the best two performances from the NACAC/Canadian Championships and one other selection race (as outlined below). Ties in points will be broken by finish place at the NACAC/Canadian championships.

Main selection race (all athletes who intend to run WMRT must run this race, with the exception of at-large bids):

July 28th NACAC and Canadian Championships (http://www.canmorechallenge.com/)
Points for Canadian placing: 20-16-12-10-8-4-2

Athletes’ best performance from one of the following races will be used in WMRT Canadian team selection:

AB/Mountain Championships: May 19th Canada Olympic Park (http://www.5peaks.com/)
BC/Pacific Championships: June 2nd Cypress Mountain (http://www.5peaks.com/)
ON/Eastern Championships: June 9th Durham Forest (http://www.5peaks.com/)

Points for finish place in the provincial championships: 10-8-6-4-2 (Junior women run Sport course, Seniors and junior men run Enduro course)

June 2nd TEVA Mountain Games, Vail, Colorado
June 24th Cranmore Hill Climb, New Hampshire USA champs
June 30th Steamboat Springs Colorado, USA qualifier
July 15th Mill Valley, California, USA qualifier

In American races points are given for Canadian placing: 8-6-4-2-1

The at-large berths will be chosen by the CTMRA Board of Directors from a pool of runners who have run at least one of the selection races, and who have indicated, in writing, before July 20th, both their intention to participate in the WMRT, and their reasons for not attending at least two qualifying races. Members of the Board of Directors are not eligible for at-large berths.

All selected athletes must be members in good standing of the CTMRA (see website for membership form). Please declare your interest in qualifying by June 1st by sending an email to: john.lofranco@mountainrunning.ca

Saturday, January 17 2007 - Selection criteria for the NACAC Mountain Running Championships in Canmore, Alberta, July 28th, 2007.

Senior
men: 6 selected
women: 6 selected

Junior (16-19 as of December 31st, 2007)
men: 3 selected
women: 3 selected

The Canadian Mountain Running team for the NACAC championships will consist of the top two senior men and senior women, and top junior man and woman, from each of the following provincial/regional championships:

AB/Mountain Championships: May 19th Canada Olympic Park (http://www.5peaks.com/)
BC/Pacific Championships: June 2nd Cypress Mountain (http://www.5peaks.com/)
ON/Eastern Championships: June 9th  Durham Forest (http://www.5peaks.com/)

The declared team will be made up of runners from these three races; however, the Canmore Challenge is also the open Canadian Mountain Running Championships, and all athletes intending to qualify for the WMRT must run this race. See the selection criteria for WMRT for more details.

Monday, January 15 2007 - Canadian NACAC team selection at three 5 Peaks trail races
This year, the Canadian Trail and Mountain Running Association will be selecting a team of athletes to participate in this year’s NACAC mountain running championships by selecting winners from three of the 5 Peaks races in Canada. As part of this partnership, ALL CTMRA members will receive a 25% discount on race entry for ALL 5 Peaks races (single race entry only). Race details at www.5peaks.com. Selection procedures will be available soon for download at www.mountainrunning.ca.
Monday, January 1 2007 - Canada to host 2007 NACAC mountain running championships
On July 28th, the Canmore Challenge trail races will host the North and Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) mountain running championships. Canada, the United States and Mexico are the big three mountain running nations in this IAAF Area championships. The 12k, up and down course, will feature 400+m of climbing and descending. The best mountain runners on the continent will run in the same race as weekend warriors, and the best Canadian finishers will be asked to represent Canada at the World Mountain Running Trophy in Ovronnaz, Switzerland, in September, 2007.
