Meggan Franks demonstrated this weekend that you do not need to live in the mountains in order to win the Canadian Mountain Running Championships. Franks, originally from Alberta but now based in Mississippi, credited her hard hill workouts on treadmills as one way to get ready for the big event. Her hard work and inventiveness paid off as she won her second national title.
In the men's race, Matthew Travaglini proved that fitness is a key factor for success in mountain running. In his first true mountain running race, he won the men's race in convincing fashion against a strong field. Travaglini's mountain running title follows success he has had on the road racing circuit this year.
Aiden Doherty won the junior men's race and will be competing for the Canadian national team for the second year in a row.
In the junior women's race, Annika Austin proved too strong for the field and, impressively was the third women overall across the finish line.
